Raising the bar

Update March 2020

In light of the current situation, we have taken the decision not go ahead with the Woking Best Bar Scheme in 2020.

From a resource perspective we do not feel that we would be able to run the scheme as in previous years. Council officers will be called upon to support different departments across the Council in helping residents and business of the Borough over the forthcoming weeks and months.

When the time is right, we will look to regroup and start to plan again for a future scheme.

Best Bar None COVID 19 Update

Night Time Economy Solutions have put together some resouces on their blog to help businesses within the hospitality sectore.  It contains information, guidance, links to resources and things you can be doing during this troubling time.

What is Best Bar None?

Best Bar None is a national accreditation and awards scheme supported by the Home Office and the drinks industry. It is aimed at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises, as well as supporting Woking’s night-time economy.

Licensed premises that apply to become Woking Best Bar None accredited are assessed to determine whether they meet an agreed set of operational standards. If they do, they will become either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Woking Best Bar None accredited venue.

Each year all Gold accredited venues have the chance to win awards chosen by an independent panel of judges – and you by making your voice heard in the People’s Choice Award.

The 2019 Woking Best Bar None awards were presented on Tuesday 14 January, watch our short video to find out more...

"We were delighted to be a part of Best Bar None again this year. Not only has it been invaluable to us as individuals but it has enabled us, with the support of the BBN team to ensure that our business runs as professionally as possible. Being awarded a gold accreditation by the nationwide scheme was a wonderful recognition and it also enables our customers to trust that our standards are as high as they can be. We pride ourselves on providing something unique to Woking and to be awarded on the night as Best Bar for the second year running but to also come away with the Overall Best Bar award was the cherry on the cake. We can’t wait for next year!"
